Tour Highlights
Based on the actual itinerary, I’d use these five highlights:
- Explore the legendary Maya ruins of Tikal over two days in the heart of Guatemala’s Petén jungle.
- Private guided temple tour including the Main Plaza, Lost World, Complex Q, and Seven Temples.
- Stay inside Tikal National Park at Jungle Lodge, surrounded by rainforest and wildlife.
- Experience Tikal early in the morning, when the jungle awakens with howler monkeys, tropical birds, and other wildlife.
- All-inclusive adventure from Antigua with roundtrip flights, private transfers, park entrance, lodging, and meals included. Trek Guatemala

Day 1: Early departure from Antigua → flight to Flores → private transfer to Tikal National Park → check in at Jungle Lodge → guided exploration of Tikal’s temples, plazas & ancient Maya ruins → sunset/jungle experience → overnight inside Tikal National Park
Day 2: Wake up in the Tikal jungle → breakfast → morning exploration of Tikal & wildlife → return to Flores → flight to Guatemala City → transfer back to Antigua
Tour Description
Tikal National Park, the crown jewel of Maya archaeological sites, has captivated visitors for over a century with monumental temples rising above Guatemala’s Petén jungle. The vast park protects an extraordinary combination of ancient ruins, tropical rainforest, and wildlife, including howler and spider monkeys, toucans, coatis, and hundreds of bird species.
Over two days, you’ll have time to experience Tikal beyond the highlights. With a private guide, explore the magnificent Great Plaza, climb ancient structures for views across the jungle canopy, and discover ceremonial complexes, palaces, pyramids, and hidden ruins connected by forest trails. Along the way, your guide brings the ancient city to life through stories of Maya kings, rituals, warfare, astronomy, and everyday life, while keeping an eye out for wildlife in the surrounding rainforest.
Tikal flourished from roughly 200 to 900 AD as one of the Maya world’s most powerful city-states. Its enormous temples and sophisticated reservoirs, causeways, and earthworks reveal the scale and ingenuity of a civilization that once supported tens of thousands of inhabitants.
Staying inside Tikal National Park at Jungle Lodge makes this a much more immersive experience than a day trip. Enjoy the sounds of the rainforest, relax by the pool after exploring, and return to the ruins when the jungle is quieter and wildlife is most active.
