Just book! We completed the four‑day trek from Antigua to Lake Atitlán with Trek Experience, and it was a beautiful and varied journey. The route offered a mix of landscapes, changing scenery each day, and plenty of moments to enjoy the surroundings at a comfortable pace.

Throughout the trek we were very well taken care of. The team was organized, attentive, and consistently supportive. The guides were kind, capable, and knowledgeable, creating a relaxed atmosphere while keeping everything running smoothly. The cook and logistical staff also did an excellent job — meals were tasty and thoughtfully prepared, and the daily setup was always ready when we arrived at camp.

The tents were surprisingly comfortable, even more so than some hotel rooms we’ve stayed in, which made the evenings a pleasant part of the experience.

We dialed in an incredible pace the entire way up and down, and his deep knowledge of the volcano and navigation made the trek seamless. My family’s experience with Trek Guatemala was absolutely outstanding from start to finish. In February 2026, we completed both the Acatenango Overnight Hike and the Antigua to Lake Atitlán Trek, and both exceeded expectations. The Acatenango hike was unforgettable. Watching Fuego erupt throughout the evening from camp was one of the most incredible travel experiences we've ever had. The guides were knowledgeable, supportive, and made sure everyone felt safe and encouraged throughout the climb. The food, equipment, and overall organization were excellent.We then continued with the Antigua to Lake Atitlán Trek, which was equally impressive. The route took us through beautiful landscapes, traditional villages, and stunning viewpoints that we never would have discovered on our own. If you’re heading to Fuego for a once in a lifetime experience, choose the best. We had Angie as a guide and she was fantastic. Very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, caring, and attentive. We learned a lot about the volcano, culture, and climates. She put safety first but made everything fun. We did the 4x4 ride up and our driver (I can’t remember his name) handled the Land Cruiser like a pro. Andre at camp was also fantastic, he cooked a great meal!! The cabins and fire ring area have an amazing view and we really enjoyed the whole Trek team. Very easy to deal with the office as well for some itinerary changes we had.

One in a lifetime experience!!! Our tour with Trek Guatemala was incredible. We got to see the eruptions of Volcán de Fuego, which were magnificent. We chose the tour with the 4x4 ride, so we only had to hike for about an hour. You also have the option to hike closer to the volcano, but we decided to stay at the base camp, which still had amazing views.

After enjoying the views of Fuego, there is another hike to watch the sunrise. Diego was our tour guide, and he was incredible, friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about volcanoes and the history of Guatemala.

We would love to go back because it was such an unforgettable experience. They also provide meals, which were very good. Depending on your package, you can choose between a private or shared cabin. The beds were comfortable, and they provide sleeping bags that keep you very warm.

Make sure to bring layers because it gets very cold at night when you are enjoying the views. We highly recommend Trek Guatemala if you want to experience the amazing volcano views in Guatemala.

A sentinel experience that hit every box on the checklist. Even before booking, sharing natural concerns, through the whole process of travel and my specific needs , the level of communication was so vital in making this experience so ideal. Even after we made it home I was checked up on with gratitude and kindness. , I cannot recommend enough using this outfit for an adventure . Great experience with the 4x4 private day tour with Hilberto! We drove up part way, hiked up to the Acatenango summit, hung out at the summit and then at base camp, and drove back the same day. We got to see probably 15-20 Volcan de Fuego eruptions, with a few of them having red lava! Amazing experience for people who don't have 2 days available!

Fuego at Sunset. Worth Every Step. If you're visiting Guatemala, TrekGuatemala's Acatenango experience is an absolute must. We did the private 4x4 jeep to base camp from Antigua where we ate lunch and watched Fuego erupt numerous times. This was followed by a guided summit hike to watch the sunset over Volcán Fuego — and it was genuinely one of the most epic things our family of four has ever done together. Our guide was exceptional: deeply knowledgeable, highly experienced on the volcano, and great at calibrating the pace for our group. Watching Fuego erupt at sunset from the summit of Acatenango is the kind of once-in-a-lifetime view you can't unsee. Highly recommend!

Antigua to Lake Atitlan trek We did the Antigua to Lake Atitlan hike. Our guide Andres was phenomenal! This was one of the best experiences due to Andres and the entire support staff. We spent 4 days hiking through total beauty of highlands, cloud forests, mountains and villages. Andres was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and so encouraging. At the end of the day the support staff greeted us with comfy tents and beds and the most amazing food! We will definitely to this trek again and will also be using Trek Guatemala for the Volcano hike next year.

Unforgettable Experience with TrekGuatemala This trip was awesome! We’ve hiked mountains in the U.S. before, but this was a whole other experience. A gigantic volcano, Fuego, is eruption literary all day, everyday. And you climb all the way to it. There’s shade by trees, there’s farms you walk passed that grow corn, there’s a restaurant at the beginning with bathrooms. There’s dogs that live on the mountain and will hike with you. Diego from trek Guatemala, our guide, was the best. He’s a freaking beast, he taught me so many good tips and tricks on how to hike better without hurting my muscles, my knees, and I took his advice and it worked! He even helped my gf because she was hurting on a certain muscle on her leg and so he did some icy-hot massaging and she felt so much better. That hike was intense, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. Anyone can do it. There was a bit of crowds at certain points, but you can always separate from them. Or go behind them to slow your pace and take a break! I did the extra Fuego hike with Diego and it was just us 4 guys and you will not believe how much fun it was. Diego showed us how to literally slide down the mountain rocks and gravel like sliding down snow and we made it down and up the other side of Fuego in like 40min. If you’re a thrill seeker, you gotta go with Diego. He’s an ultra marathon runner btw. All the rest of the staff was so courteous, thoughtful and informative, ready to answer any and all questions you may have. They got plenty of gear to rent. We brought our own packs w/bladders, trekking poles, boots, gloves, snacks, but they have all that plus more available. It is def camping, so don’t expect crazy luxury, afterall, you’re chilling with a volcano. Oh, also, Diego took us as far as we could go next to the volcano without being in danger, which was closer than everybody else. The explosions when you’re close to it are incredible. By the time we got back to camp from Fuego, they had a fire going, hot food, hot chocolate, ready for us and it was much needed after a full day of hiking. I would recommend drinking plenty of water the day of, but also like weeks before everyday. So you’re well hydrated. When training for this, focus on controlling your breathing especially when you’re hitting higher heart rates, that’ll help so much to keep pushing when you’re going incline after so many hours and gotta keep going. Have fun!

Experience of a lifetime - bring warm clothes!! The basecamp is amazing -- views of Fuego erupting every few minutes. The guides were fantastic: knowledgeable, interested and interesting, friendly and excited to share their background and stories. The hike through so many ecosystems was truly phenomenal. We didn't end up summiting (it was so cloudy and windy there would have been no view), but that didn't diminish the experience.

The hike is tough -- both the ascent and the descent -- be prepared!

I was worried about altitude sickness for the 12,000' base camp (with no time to acclimate) but staying hydrated was key and I didn't have too many altitude symptoms.

I had heard how cold it was, but the winds made it extremely cold (note I'm from Vermont and used to -10 degrees F). I slept in all my layers (hiking T, hiking long sleeve, long underwear, fleece, puffer, sleeping bag, gloves) and was still cold. The glamping tent was comfortable, and the shelter and fire were great to gather around with friends.

Overall, this is an experience I will treasure for my whole life.

Private 4 day trek : Acatenango to Atitlan Trek Guatemala rocked it! We were a huge group with diverse needs (including a physically disabled member, and specialized medical needs), and Trek Guatemala provided astounding logistics to allow everyone flexibility to have the best trip possible -- adapting on the fly to changing weather and conditions.

Highlights: the trekking was spectacular -- these hiking days will truly be some of my favorites of my whole life. There was rarely a step without a volcano-view, often of the erupting Fuego. My favorite was the basecamp above Atitlan, with views to Fuego and Acetenango in one direction and lake Atitlan in the other -- absolutely spectacular. I loved the cloud forests and varied ecosystems we went through.

But it wasn't just the trek -- it was the way it was woven with cultural experiences and getting to know the guides. It felt so special to go into the home of a woman my age (with 7 children), learn how to prepare tortilla, and watch her weaving. I loved the coffee plantation tour.

When I got a stomach bug (from some street food I'd unwisely eaten in Antigua before the trek), given the nature of our private tour, there was flexibility to replace a hiking day with a trip to Iximche ruins (where we had a fantastic Mayan guide to the ruins).

I don't know if it's typical, but our private tour included a private chef who was FANTASTIC, and prepared the best food we had of our whole trip (surpassing the fancy restaurants in Antigua I went to).

I was initially surprised at the high cost of the trip (definitely the most expensive tour I've ever done), but it was worth it for memories of a lifetime. You won't be disappointed.

As for the glamping I don't like camping but I found the cots (Acetenango) and air mattresses (other trek nights) comfortable. Some others in my trek had issues with tents/ cots / air mattresses -- but the staff were usually able to address them quickly. For those used to bathrooms, be prepared for more primitive conditions. Note: the high altitude can make you need to pee more often than usual. I highly recommend having some way to avoid making a zillion trips out of the tent in the middle of the night (eg a bottle and a shewee/similar device). Also note -- it was COLD! We had unusually cold/windy conditions, but I will note I slept in all my layers (5 layers!) for 2 of the nights before the weather returned to normal. Bring warm gloves and hat.

Come prepared, and it will be the best time! Had the best time! Our guide Chris was amazing and dealt with a tough group. Two of the six showed up late and made everyone wait, skipped orientation, essentially came completely unprepared for the altitude, no sunscreen, etc (could go on and on). However, our guide expertly managed the situation keeping them safe and ensuring the rest of us had a blast. Food was great, views amazing, sleeping situation solid for a volcano. Come prepared, and you will have a great time!

Great overnight Hike & Glamp! I had an exceptional time with incredible views. A group of of eight of us hiked and camped with Rolo & Andres. They were exceptional guides! Three of us did the Fuego add-on hike with Rolo, which was amazing. Summited Achentenango in the morning with Andres for sunrise. Overall just an incredible journey. Physically demanding, but worth the payoff!

A highly-recommend trek and truly life-enriching experience in a beautiful landscape We did the Antigua to Atitlán Trek in January and had an incredibly enjoyable and memorable time. Alex was our guide and he was outstanding; friendly, informative and very thoughtful. The backup team was excellent too.
It was a varied and interesting route with many beautiful vistas, lots of volcano views and wonderfully warm encounters with the local farming communities we camped in and passed through. The food and camping arrangements were excellent. The trekking requires a reasonable degree of fitness but is not really tough.
I would highly recommend this trip, not least because it brings you close to nature and to the people who live in this wonderful area.

Adventures out there, just do it!!! My daughter said “Hey mom What’ca doing mid January?” I said” What’ca got planned?” Wow 🤩 so awesome! Every thing is all planned out for you. Amazing hike to Lake Atitlan We did the 4 day 3 night trek from Antigua to Lake Atitlan with Brolo as our guide. What an amazing hiking and cultural experience. Matt the owner said he would refund our money if we saw any other tourists on our hike. I see now why he was so confident. We were hiking on 500 year old Mayan trails through small villages and farms and we never saw another tourist until we got to the lake. Highlights of our trip were:

Brolo and the team did an amazing job organizing everything. Every detail was thought out and taken care of. The tents and beds were comfortable, the food was excellent, and the hot shower at night was wonderful. One day we were hiking and started talking about chips and Guacamole so Brolo must have messaged ahead and we had chips and Guacamole for an appetizer. These guys are pros!

The cultural experience of hiking through farms and villages and greeting the farmers, the kids, and the dogs was life changing for me. Guatemala is a beautiful country and the people are so hardworking and kind. This was the best part of the experience for me.

I can see the attraction of hiking up to the volcano but we had amazing views every night of the volcano's at our campsite and saw the lava and amazing sunsets and sunrises.

Tips for a successful trip:

Our hike was in January and the weather in the daytime was fantastic with no bugs but it was very cold at night standing around the campsite. I wish I had brought a heavier down jacket and gloves. I was always warm in bed, helped by the water bottles they gave us before bed.

The hiking is challenging. I am 67 years old and fit and I did not find it overly difficult but I could see how a novice would struggle. The elevation change per day is insane so be prepared!

We wish we had brought more gifts for the kids. We brought dog biscuits and ran out in 2 days because of so many dogs in the villages.

Overall Trek Guatemala did an amazing job and I strongly recommend this trip if you want to get off the beaten path, really see Guatemala, and love to hike.

Incredible Type 2 Adventure with the best guides! This was an epic type 2 adventure! Our guides, Chris and Oscar, were so great. They were knowledgeable about the mountain, took care with each of us when we needed special attention, and honestly we ended the journey as friends. The only thing I’d recommend is that you have warmer sleeping bags - it was quite cold at night. 10/10 would recommend!!

Epic experience! What a fantastic experience We hiked to Acetanengo; a challenging hike but our guides were super supportive, kind, humorous & patient!
They did a great job of working with a group of varied speeds! Guides Chris & Oscar were wonderful!

I loved how the hike went through distinct eco-systems!
It got a bit crowded in some sections but Chris was stellar at navigating alternate trails to pass folks.
Absolutely loved getting to the summit at sunrise! Highly recommend this experience!

Wonderful experience hiking the volcano with Trek Guatemala! We had a great time in our hike! It was hard, the elevation gain was intense coming from sea level but loved our guides and they helped us through it! Andres, Oscar, and Rodrigo were excellent at keeping us motivated and our spirits high. The food was quite good and the camp was perfectly situated to see the volcano eruptions at night. The summit sunrise was amazing! It was an exhausting hike but very beautiful and worth it. Next time we would try the glamping option as the tents were nice but a bit small for my husband who is 6’2”. I was also a little cold at night and wish I had brought a sleeping bag liner. Only do the add on hike if it’s a clear night. You can see plenty from the base camp and it’s a very tiring day to include the additional hike if it’s cloudy.

Wonderful Experience It was a wonderful trip staying with your company. All the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. I will definitely recommend this experience to friends who want to go hiking in Guatemala.

Special thanks to our tour guide, Chris — he was extremely nice and thoughtful. I wouldn’t have been able to reach the summit of the volcano without his help. The standard hike usually takes about 45 minutes, but it took me more than two extra hours, and I almost wanted to quit halfway. His encouragement and patience made a huge difference.

The food offered here was also excellent, especially the banana bread and dinner.

I truly appreciate everyone who helped us during this trip.

Great hike My husband and I had a beautiful trek up Acatenango. Fuego was active. Our guide Luis was wonderful. The camp and staff at the top were great.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great. Lots of clouds, and rain during the night and the second day. So views were only on the first day/evening.

Excellent 4-day Trek The 4-day trek from Antigua to Lake Atitlan I took was quite an adventure. The guide Andres was knowledgeable, warm, and considerate. Since I am 84 years old, he set a pace I could take. After trekking above the tree line in Nepal, Iceland, and Chile, I wanted to trek in cloud forests near volcanos. This trek not only gave that but paths through Mayan villages and fields. The camps were comfortable with large tents and air mattresses with down comforters. The outdoor shower had warm water and the food was excellent Guatemalan cuisine.

Highly recommend for all around Acatenango experience! An absolute must if visiting Antigua area. We had the best time with Trek Guatemala. Our guide Leo was so knowledgeable about the history of Fuego and Acatenango and how intertwined they are with the community. An amazing experience from the great accommodations and food, to the super thoughtful guide and support team - I'd highly recommend Trek Guatemala for anyone looking for an adventure with a more high-touch and personalized experience

Coolest experience ever! We took a 4x4 up the volcano with Leo as our guide, hiking only about 2 miles to base camp and then summited Acatenango the next morning! It was truly an unforgettable experience with amazing guides, comfortable facilities, and great food! The 4x4 was a great option if you’re worried about the hard hike, while still having the chance to get steps in! Even just the views from the base camp were astounding can’t wait to come back! Amazing hike of the Fuego Volcano Wow, what a great experience! Trek Guatemala does it right. Well prepared, pre-hike meeting the day before to set expectations and also to understand what we really need. They had everything new and clean from coats to fleece, hats, gloves, even back packs and head lamps.
Our guides were very thoughtful for us being flat landers and we were headed to 12,000 feet. Lots of water and take it nice and easy. It was great too because we hand many private trails so no crowds bullying by us. Once we made it to camp we had our tents and elevated beds that were again in great condition. I must say this is the first time in my life I needed to sleep inside the sleeping bags which was warm. The view Fuego was very active for us amazing. The tea and coffee, snacks, dinner, breakfast, everything was great and well planned. I highly recommend Trek Guatemala if you’re planning this amazing adventure.

Smooth Experience Very smooth and memorable experience, accommodating team to logistical requests, would use the service again. Mid-November was a great time to visit, with clear views of Fuego and barely any rain at the top! Sunrise on the way down was amazing. Crazy volcano views from the campsite!

Great experience After so much research I decided to go with Trek because they do small group with a private trail. Our tourist guides were Andres and Chris, and let me tell you they were amazing. They were incredibly helpful with our small group and constantly checked in to make sure we were doing okay with the high elevation. After the challenging hike, arriving at base camp to our glamping setup, complete with hot coffee and tea, was absolutely perfect. It made the whole experience even more special.
I strongly recommend paying extra for the glamping option — it’s 100% worth it. Overall, an unforgettable experience with a fantastic tour company and even better guides! Thank you Andres and Chris- “final push”
